Duties Description The New York State Mentoring Program is seeking a Regional Coordinator to develop and support mentoring programs in Queens and Long Island. The New York State Mentoring Program offers various services to mentoring programs across the State to ensure strong and impactful mentoring programs for New York’s youth. This position will help schools and non-profits by providing mentor training classes, boundaries/structure to their mentoring programs, mentor screening, and activity ideas and discussions topics for mentor-mentee engagement. This position also requires volunteer recruitment for mentors by networking and connecting with local businesses and community stakeholders to become sources for volunteer mentors. The Regional Coordinator will oversee the placement and onboarding process of volunteers as they are identified. The ideal candidate for this position should feel comfortable presenting and delivering training classes to large groups of people and able to travel throughout the three counties, while being responsible for the following duties:

Support regional schools in launching mentoring programs with recruiting, screening, training mentors, and continuous consultation of school staff on best practices and collecting feedback/surveys;

Meet with local business leaders and non-profit organizations to establish mentor recruiting relationships;

Provide services to local non-profits in the form of mentor training classes (occasional evenings or weekends), screening, recruiting and consulting;

Able to travel up to 75% of the time during the school year visiting schools, conducting trainings and meeting community stakeholders;

Support mentors during their relationships by showing up to programs in person, being available by phone and email to answer questions and provide guidance or encouragement;

Clearly communicate Mentoring Program goals and best practices to School District Superintendents, Principals, school faculty, volunteer mentors, students of all ages and local community partners;

Deliver presentations and trainings in front of groups up to 100 people in size;

Maintain accurate information in the Mentoring Program database for tracking programs and mentors.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:
1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees.
2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees.
3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
