Minimum Qualifications Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Licensed Master Social Worker 1 eligible list may be considered for appointment.

Section 70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-16 or higher deemed eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law AND be currently licensed and registered by New York State as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• Experience in working with developmentally-delayed/sensory-impaired children; and
• Experience working as a member of a related-services or educational team.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Licensed Master Social Worker 1 position at the New York State School for the Blind. The incumbent of this position will work with students, families, and teachers to solve problems relating to student achievement and mental health, and will manage crisis situations as they arise. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Work with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Program requirements and Behavioral Intervention Plans;
• Develop mandated social-history reports and recommendations;
• Assist families in understanding problems experienced by their children, pursue community services, and facilitate communication with the school to help remediate school-centered problems;
• Provide collaboration and consultation to education and residential staff regarding student problems, and coordinate plans and actions;
• Facilitate the involvement of community agencies in efforts directed toward the remediation of student problems;
• Provide liaison services and facilitate open communication among school personnel, families, and agencies;
• Perform other behavioral and health and safety standards as defined in the employee handbook; and
• Facilitate transition coordination for all students.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Verification of degree and/or transcripts will be required for all candidates at the time of interview.

This will be a contingent-permanent, 12-month position. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $70,566 with annual performance advances.
