Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and five years of professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a master’s degree and four years of such experience; or a Doctorate in the appropriate field and two years of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Extensive experience in managing a Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorter (FACS)
• Preference for experience in studies aimed to identify and sort extracellular vehicles.

Duties Description Specific responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:

• Scientific oversight and maintenance of the FACS facility
• Maintain the management and safe operation of the instrument
• Manage safe and authorized use and training on the instrument
• Maximize use by keeping a schedule table that will allocate necessary time for each investigator
• Assure that only users with approval from institutional human subjects, animal welfare and biosafety committees, when applicable, will have access to the instrument
• Interpret results and collaborate with investigators in preparing findings for publication
• Train junior staff on relevant techniques
Assist other NKI investigators in the development of grant applications

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI), is a dedicated research facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) located on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. NKI is affiliated with the New York University Langone Medical Center (NYULMC), located in midtown Manhattan. Applications are currently being invited for a full-time Research Scientist 4 position within NKI’s Center for Dementia Research.

This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
