Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications G18 - Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics or a related field and two years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a master’s degree in one of the above fields and one year of such experience in the appropriate field.

Master’s degree in public health plus research experience in the area of communicable disease control and epidemiology. Familiarity with surveillance and epidemiological research methods. Experience in management and analysis of large data sets, including experience with statistical database software, such as SAS. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Research Scientist 4 (RS 4) in the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) Program, the Research Scientist 1 (RS1) will assist with the management and evaluation of data in NYSIIS. The RS1 will support coding changes to the NYSIIS necessary for the recording, tracking and analysis of COVID-19 vaccine orders, inventory and administration. The incumbent will also perform quality control of the reported data and use statistical software to conduct site-specific and aggregate analysis for purposes of program evaluation and research. The RS1 will also participate in the development, implementation, and analysis of research projects utilizing immunization registry data and other available data. Research projects will include identifying indicators for children who are at risk for being under-immunized; determining geographic areas of under-immunization and supporting data-driven program activities to increase vaccination coverage levels, including identifying issues with provider reporting to NYSIIS. The incumbent will also assist in the publication of research findings, support outbreak related activities and assist with other special data projects. S/he will participate in national workgroups (sponsored by the American Immunization Registry Association and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Modeling of Immunization Registry Operations Workgroup) and support outreach and training needs of NYSIIS users.
