Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description These positions will be working on the Lake Champlain Creel Survey to collect angler data. These positions will involve implementing an angler survey that involves direct contact interviews of anglers and recording data from fishing trips in a standard manner. Select bays on Lake Champlain will be surveyed during the ice fishing season, with more locations added during the open water creel curvey. Then technicians are required to work weekend days and holidays and half the weekdays. Scheduled work times vary with the changing daylight period. Technicians work 40 hours per week. Technicians must effectively interact and communicate with the public, ask questions regarding angling experience on the lake, and accurately record angler answers and biological data. Processing fish for length, weight, and clip required. Must work effectively both independently and as a team member.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Weekends and holidays may be required. Some nights may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 3/31/21. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
