Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Experience supervising staff, carpentry, plumbing, snow removal, chainsaw and small/heavy equipment operation is preferred.
Duties Description Candidate will be required to supervise subordinate field staff. Will be required to provide instructions to staff on project priorities, work schedules, equipment needs and health and safety issues. Must be willing and able to assist with planning and lay out of construction, maintenance and repair projects to be completed by field staff. Candidate must have knowledge of maintenance, construction and rehabilitation work on infrastructure and facilities including educational camps, campgrounds, boat launch facilities, flood protection facilities, recreational facilities, road systems, foot trails, utilities, bridges and dams. Will be required to operate snow removal equipment, small and heavy equipment and chainsaws. Must have general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades. Must be able to perform the described job duties/skills according to work orders or verbal instructions by inspecting the work site to determine materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method to be used; developing a plan or lay out for the project or following a blueprint or schematic; assembling, fabricating or building and installing materials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work. Will be required to purchase supplies and materials from vendors, obtain quotes for various projects, track supplies and equipment to ensure proper use and accurate and timely submission of schedules, reports and work orders.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no brake restriction. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment ending no later than 3/31/22. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date which may be prior to date indicated. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
