Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization and a minimum of 2 years working in a supervisory capacity overseeing operations, specifically in maintenance and grounds OR an Associate's Degree in a related field actively working towards a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years working in operations, specifically grounds and maintenance
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and other electronic software/tools involved with managing operations
Strong verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Available to work off-hours and weekends, as necessary
Willing to obtain a valid Class B commercial driver's license

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Plant Operations, the Manager of Grounds, VOC, Mechanical Repair provides overall direction to grounds, mechanical repair, and vehicle operations, along with overseeing all projects related to these operations. The manager provides direction to staff and leads a team to ensure continuity within these critical operational functions. The Grounds, VOC, Mechanical Repair Manager is responsible for the following:

Provide supervision of Grounds Operations, managing academic and athletic lawns, gardens, planters, and playing fields
Provide supervision of Mechanical Repair operations
Provide supervision of Vehicle Operations Center operations and recommendations for University fleet management
Manage irrigation control for Uptown University grounds including Athletic facilities
Maintain storm sewer system while addressing MS4 storm water concerns associated with Indian Pond
Address deferred maintenance through critical repairs and projects; maintain and/or create, as needed, programs for weed control, pest management, road, sidewalk, and traffic sign maintenance, and other cyclic needs
Organize and reallocate staff for the most effective and productive use of resources
Support planning and implementation of the AIM Computerized Maintenance Management System for daily and preventative maintenance
Provide critical support for essential campus initiatives relating to Sustainability, environmental impact, energy, and fire safety working with Departments of Environmental Health & Safety, Residential Life, Energy & Sustainability, University Auxiliary Services, and Student Life as needed
Work closely with other University Divisions, departments, the neighboring community, and outside agencies, as necessary, to accomplish work assignments
Identify opportunities to reduce operating cost
Support Facilities Operations, provide mentoring and staff development to subordinate staff; continue development of a succession plan
Provide employee evaluations on a timely basis
Provide service to the University (volunteer work, governance, student or community activities
