Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 2 (G24); OR New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent- permanent competitive service in the Public Health Nutritionist 1, G-22 title, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience and a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Candidates with experience in developing and overseeing training for both professional and low-income audiences are preferred. Excellent writing, verbal, organization and interpersonal skills are desired. Possess proficiency with MS Office and familiar with working with large program information systems.
Duties Description The Public Health Nutritionist 2 (PHN2) will provide oversight of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in the 17 County Western Region. Conducts contract management to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Conducts quality control reviews to ensure consistency and quality are being maintained. Analyze and review WIC Program Data and operational statistics to determine agency services align with policy, procedure and strategic program initiatives. Provides expert technical assistance to WIC Local Agency and Sponsoring Agency staff. Prepares reports, correspondence and other documents relation to program functions. Assists with developing nutrition program policies, procedures, work plans and training materials in compliance with the regulations. This position provides supervision and leadership to a team of staff working in the Western Regional office.
The PHN 2 will provide oversight to staff responsible for interpreting federal regulations governing the WIC program; developing and revising associated program policies and procedures; assessing and monitoring program participation; analyzing reports and other data sources; leading outreach efforts and providing oversight for enrollment and retention strategies for WIC eligible participants, including associated contract management; assisting to meet the goals set forth in the annual NYS WIC State Plan; and participating in long and short term program planning for NYWIC. The incumbent will supervise Public Health Nutritionists, Health Program Administrators, and temporary staff. "
Additional Comments Full time, permanent appointment. Occasional statewide travel, including overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation is required. Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) as defined above must be maintained for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist.
