Minimum Qualifications One year of experience as a Youth Facility Assistant Director 3, M-1 or Youth Facility Director 1, M-1 or Youth Facility Assistant Director 4, M-2 or Youth Facility Director 2, M-2.
OR – OCFS Experience
One year of professional experience at G-28/M-3 or above; or two years of professional experience at G-26/M-2; or three years of experience at G-24/M-1 or above; or a satisfactory equivalent combination of the above experience. Qualifying experience must have been gained in a facility-based position, or in a central office position having substantial responsibility for the support of OCFS operated residential programs. Two years of the required experience must have included responsibility for the supervision of professional staff.
OR – NYS Experience – Non-OCFS
One year of professional experience at G-30/M-4 or above; or two years of professional experience at G-28/M-3; or three years of experience at G-26/M-2 or above. Qualifying experience must have been gained in a facility-based position, or in a central office position having substantial responsibility for the support of residential programs. Two years of the required experience must have included responsibility for the supervision of professional staff.
OR Non-State Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and eight years’ experience must have been gained in the overall administration of a care/custody facility for adult correctional, juvenile justice, mental health or forensic mental health clientele. Qualifying experience must have been gained in a facility-based position having substantial responsibility for the support of residential programs. Two years of the required experience must have included responsibility for the supervision of professional staff.

Duties Description Provide on-site management at Brookwood Secure Center, a youth residential facility administered by the Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY).

Direct the operations of Brookwood, a residential facility with programming for male and female youth. Brookwood works toward the care, education, behavioral/mental health development, and personal growth of youth sentenced by Criminal Court or adjudicated by Family Court.

Establish and maintain community relations and serve as a spokesperson in the local community, including with union representatives, on behalf of the Office of Children and Family Services.

Retain familiarity with relevant NYS Executive Law, applicable state, and federal regulations, and OCFS policies.

Assist in the implementation and monitoring of OCFS policies and procedures.

Supervise various departments to keep a safe, secure, and healthy environment for youth and staff. Departments include: administration, maintenance, youth programs, ministerial, mental health, nutrition, medical, vocation, education, and security services.

Actively engage with facility staff and youth. Serve as a guide, support, and mentor to facility staff. Liaise with DJJOY Leadership to grow Brookwood’s capacities and capabilities.

Provide on-call management coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:

1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees.

2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees.

3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
