Transfer Opportunity - Candidates must have permanent status as an Office Assistant 2 (Calculations), and be eligible for lateral transfer;

be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. To qualify for Section 70.1 transfer, candidates must have at least one year of permanent status in a title approved for transfer by Civil Service within two salary grades of the Grade 9 level.

In the event there is no viable Civil Service list, a provisional appointment may be made. In order to be eligible for a provisional appointment, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 5 or higher. In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Office Assistant 2 Calculations at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

Duties Description As an Office Assistant 2 (Calculations), you may supervise Office Assistants 1 or other lower-level staff, typically in the performance of calculations work; and/or perform more complicated mathematical operations and/or complicated clerical activities related to mathematical operations. Incumbents are expected to understand the activities of the program area within which they work in order to answer questions and explain or clarify procedures. They use independent judgment to make decisions and resolve problems and are typically responsible for a particular segment of a program where dealing with numbers and performing calculations is a critical aspect. Activities may include entering information into, offering basic interpretations of information within, or retrieving information from, various computer databases. Duties may incorporate, but are not limited to, financial (including record-keeping, bookkeeping, and reconciliation activities), purchasing, or statistical functions.

Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR will be barred from appointment.

Additional Comments: This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
