Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: bachelor’s degree and two years of professional research experience in an appropriate field.
Substitution: master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of the experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Laboratory experience in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related scientific field. Experience with gas and liquid chromatography (GC & LC) systems, sample preparation and extraction. Knowledge of multiple gas chromatography detectors (GC-ECD, GC-FID & GC-NPD) and UPLC detectors (LC-PDA, LC-FLR) is highly desirable.
Duties Description The incumbent in this position is responsible for support activities within the Laboratory of Organic Analytical Chemistry. Specific duties include the analysis of organic toxic chemicals in various environmental matrices using GC and/or UPLC with various detectors, preparing samples and calibration standards, performing instrument maintenance, conducting data reduction, and developing more advanced and efficient analytical methods, as the need arises. Additional responsibilities will also include preparing data reports, reviewing standard operating procedures (SOP), performing quality assurance duties, and other assigned tasks as directed.
Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, full-time. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, candidates who accept appointment may be required to wear personal protective equipment, undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluation, and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent re-assignment, background checks may also be required.
