Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list.

Candidates must have permanently served at least one year in a title designated as appropriate for transfer in accordance with Section 70.1 or 70.4 of Civil Service Law, a bachelor’s degree and 24 credit hours in accounting and/or auditing courses.

To be eligible for a 70.1 transfer to an accountant trainee, a candidate must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title, a bachelor’s degree including 24 credit hours in accounting and/or auditing.

To be eligible for a 70.4 transfer a candidate must have one year of permanent competitive service in a position allocated to a grade 12 or higher, a bachelor’s degree including 24 credit hours in accounting and /or auditing.

Depending on qualifications, candidates may be required to serve a 2-year traineeship that leads to the journey level, grade 18 position.

Duties Description The senior accountant and/or senior accountant trainee will work in Financial Administration of the Workers’ Compensation Board. The position is responsible for the day-to-day activities involved in the maintenance of accounting records and preparation of financial reports.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Perform General Ledger accounting entries and review General Ledger transactions for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Complete WCB Special Revenue account reconciliations and Third-Party Administrator account reconciliations.
• Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliation.
• Prepare Financial Statements and supporting schedules for WCB Special Revenue Funds.
• Present monthly Financial Statements and supporting schedules to Associate Accountant.
• Review daily, monthly, annual and/or periodic reports for accuracy and completion.
• Prepare Ad Hoc reports as requested.
• Serve as banking liaison to resolve banking inquiries and issues.
• Manage shared email box, ensure all inquiries are answered timely and accurately.
• Participate in a group setting, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Assist in special projects as requested by supervisor/management.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills.
• Correspond in a professional manner with co-workers, management, and external parties.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, and Word).
• Knowledge of Statewide Financial System or PeopleSoft (preferred but not required).
