Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in an art or design field such as art, drawing, painting, illustration, digital design, or interactive media and two years of experience; or an associate’s degree in the same fields and four years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Previous graphic design experience with a variety of print and digital communications materials
· Extensive knowledge of graphic design concepts for print and digital communications materials
· Experience taking photographs
· Proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other Adobe Suite products
· Proven ability to handle multiple projects
·Strong oral and written communication skills

Duties Description The Education & Outreach office is responsible for educating both external customers (i.e., members, media, general public, stakeholders) and internal customers (i.e., staff and management) about NYSTRS and its services. This is accomplished through various forms of written, verbal and digital communications vehicles. The Education & Outreach department is comprised of the Public Information Office (PIO) and the Documentation & Training unit (D&T).
The Graphic Designer will be responsible for the design, formatting, layout and editing, as well as the print and digital production of NYSTRS’ media, including but not limited to publications, letterhead, business cards, infographics and signage. They will also create printing specifications and work with print vendors to print and receive publications and collateral; format and create Administrative Bulletins for participating employers and Delegate News for delegates; and take photographs at NYSTRS events. Other design projects will be assigned as needed to support the mission of E&O in educating and informing stakeholders, as well as to support other departments.
Under the direction of Education & Outreach’s (E&O) Communications Program Coordinator, the Graphic Designer 2 is responsible for designing and creating print and digital collateral using the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office products. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The design, formatting, layout and editing, as well as the print and digital production, of:
Logos, letterhead, business cards
Publications including:
Newsletters, brochures, handbooks, fliers
Financial and investment reports, such as the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, Popular Annual Financial Report, Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises Asset Management and Financial Institution Strategy Report, Operating Budget Book, Investment Policy Manual and investment team reports (Some of these financial reports are maintained in a financial reporting software. Training will be provided.)
Legal publications, including the Compilation of Laws and Board Governance Manual
Administrative Bulletins (for employers participating in NYSTRS) and Delegate News (for teachers who serve as delegates)
Infographics
Signage
Presentations
- Preparing print specifications, working with NYSTRS’ Procurement Department and print vendors to prepare, publish, print and receive publications and collateral
- Photographing NYSTRS events and taking headshots of NYSTRS Board and staff as needed
- Working with other NYSTRS departments as applicable to coordinate the design and content of publications and reports, including charts, graphs and editorial content
- Other special graphic design projects and assignments as needed to support the mission of E&O in educating internal and external stakeholders
