Minimum Qualifications "For Accountant Trainee: 1) Current Department of Health or NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title equated to G-13 or above, and deemed eligible for transfer to Accountant Trainee 1 under section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
For Senior Accountant: 1) Current Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Senior Accountant OR 2) Current NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service as a Senior Accountant OR 3) Current NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a G-18 title designated as eligible for transfer to Senior Accountant under section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
Note on special additional requirements: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours in accounting, auditing and/or taxation courses in order to qualify. If selected for interview, candidates will be required to submit proof of possession of the required degree and course credits at the time of interview. (Courses such as business law, economics, statistics and most finance courses are NOT considered qualifying.)

Experience with navigating and transacting in the Statewide Financial System (SFS). Experiene with the SFS AR module or revenue collection and processing in general. Solid knowledge of the Guide for Financial Operations and NYS procurement rules. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and intermediate to advanced skills in MS Suite, particularly Excel and Access.

Duties Description The Senior Accountant will work in the Revenue Unit of the Bureau of Accounts Management in the Fiscal Management Group. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for generating and analyzing data for the Fines and Penalties’ system; managing the collection of delinquent fines; assisting with the timely and accurate processing of wire transfers and Refunds of Appropriation; designing and generating reports to support all the above to satisfy management requests; and assisting supervisor with other related fiscal tasks as necessary.
