Minimum Qualifications 1. Satisfactory Completion of 60 semester credit hours of college coursework which includes at least 18 semester credit hours in biology, chemistry, physics, health science or science technology; OR 2. Two (2) years of satisfactory experience in either a laboratory or a clinical setting performing technical laboratory test and procedures; OR 3. Satisfactory equivalent combination of options 1 and 2, equaling 2 years. College study will be credited in six-month segments, with 15 semester credit hours equaling six months. Credits must include at least 18 semester credit hours in biology, chemistry, physics, health science, or science technology.
Duties Description Assist Research Scientists (Entomologist and Forest Pathologist) with diagnoses of tree pests and diseases by responding to public email inquiries and performing site visits to collect information and help diagnose tree health problems; produce written reports on findings.
Assist Research Scientists with research projects by composing literature reviews, collecting and organizing data, using GIS to query tree inventory data and create maps for survey; collecting and mounting tree cores.
Provide operational support for field-based projects through the general maintenance of Lab equipment and supplies.
Produce high-quality images of forest health-related pests and diseases utilizing the Lab’s photography studio.
Assist the Entomologist with the curation of the Lab’s insect collection: Duties include pinning and labeling insect specimens, organizing insect drawers and cataloging the collection in an Excel spreadsheet.
Assist with outreach activities: Produce resin castings of invasive insects; build displays for posters for outreach events; assist with content development for social media posts and written publications.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/23. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to the date listed above. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
