Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Non-competitive: one year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R).


Preferred Qualifications:
EPA Universal Certification
Certifications from Siemens or Andover Controls training schools
Any Certifications from other bonafide training programs.

Physical Demands:
Bending, twisting, ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, access equipment located on mezzanines, catwalks, basements and crawlspaces. Ability to work off ladders, scaffolding, in confined spaces and/or where air monitoring may be required. Work in loud/noisy dusty/dirty environments. Work with or around high-pressure steam, high-voltage electrical systems and rotating equipment.

Duties Description Position Summary:
This is a working supervisory role in which the candidate should expect to spend a majority of their time in the field servicing and repairing HVAC controls equipment and systems. In this supervisory role, you will be responsible for oversight, diagnosis and coordination of repairs for multiple building mechanical control and Building Management Systems (BMS) that control HVAC equipment. You will be leading the team as well as utilizing strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

Duties include:

• This is a first-line Supervisory position that directs, coordinates and prioritizes a variety of installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
• You will be working with commercial HVAC mechanical systems, interpreting information from prints, drawings and specification manuals related to repairs.
• Encourage a culture of Safety, and arrange for ongoing staff training. Create a team-environment where all members can excel.
• You will be handling sensitive employee issues including performance appraisals.
• Respond to after-hours and weekend emergencies in the event of significant equipment failure.

Departmental Operating Needs:
The candidate must have demonstrated experience and understanding of commercial/institutional HVAC mechanical equipment, systems, controls and sequence of operations for air handling units, roof top units, VAV boxes, fan coil units, fume hoods, unit heaters, exhaust fans, variable speed drives, humidifiers and all other institutional equipment and systems. The candidate must have:

• Experience and understanding with the ability to diagnose, service, repair and replace direct digital control (DDC) building automation equipment (BAS)
• Strong networking and computer experience with the ability to network and program DDC BAS equipment and systems
• The ability to read and interpret prints, drawings and specification manuals related to repairs and new construction of HVAC BAS
• The ability to communicate subject matter effectively with subordinates, engineering staff and contractors
• Proficiency with computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and an electronic work order system

Candidate must also demonstrate effective communication skills.

The incumbent may be required to work during adverse weather conditions to ensure continuous operation of all BMS and HVAC systems.
