Minimum Qualifications Must have at least four years of satisfactory experience working under a journey-level steel fabricator which would provide training equivalent to that gained in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in the steel fabricating trade or training gained by completion of technical courses in steel fabricating work at a school or institute may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year-for-year basis.
Employees must possess a valid CDL B driver’s license with no Air Brake restriction to operate a motor vehicle in NYS at the time of appointment & continuously maintain it thereafter or face possible disciplinary action up to & including termination
Duties Description Repair boilers and canal vessels by inserting patches and stay bolts, by retubing boiler coils
Fabricate tapered pipes to connect rectangular and round openings and smokestacks for canal vessels
Fabricate and repair lock gates and valves to ensure integrity of locks
Manufacture and repair A-frames for derrick by riveting and welding parts together
Fabricate shore pipe and pontoons used in dredging operations
May fabricate steel structure members for bridges
