Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for this title;

Transfer Opportunity - have permanent status as a Transportation Supervisor 1 and be eligible for lateral transfer OR be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law.

OR

Provisional Opportunity – In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following promotion or open competitive qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment:

Promotion:
One year of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service as a Bus Driver or Motor Vehicle Operator.

OR

Open Competitive:
Either 1. three years of experience in the management or supervision of fleet operations or daily dispatching of motor vehicles from a pool of at least 30 vehicles;

Or 2. six years of experience overseeing the maintenance of motor vehicles and keeping records and reports of that maintenance from a pool of at least 30 vehicles.

Substitution: You may substitute a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma issued by an appropriate educational authority for two years of the experience described in #1, or four years of the experience described in #2.

If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.

Duties Description As a Transportation Supervisor 1, you would plan and schedule the daily assignment of vehicles for use by facility staff, and for the transportation of individuals and delivery of supplies; prepare and maintain records of vehicle utilization, gas and oil consumption, mileage reports, work orders, motor vehicle parts inventory receipts and disbursements, insurance coverage forms, and Uniform Reporting Code reports; review drivers’ reports of vehicle malfunctions, assign minor repairs and servicing to facility mechanics, and schedule major repairs and inspections; and supervise various transportation unit staff, schedule regular and overtime work assignments, monitor time and attendance, and prepare performance evaluations.

Additional Comments Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC) which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

Additional Comments:
This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
