• Must be active and reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list for Head Occupational Therapist;

• Must be eligible for 70.1 transfer by way of current permanent status in a title deemed comparable by the NYS Department of Civil Service to the Head Occupational Therapist AND meet the minimum qualifications as noted on the exam announcement*
Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Head Occupational Therapist provides clinical and administrative supervision to the clinic's Occupational Therapy Department, which consists of Occupational Therapists (OT), Certified Occupational Therapy Aides (COTA), and an Adaptive Equipment Specialist (AES). The Head OT will lead the department as it pivots towards providing more in-person clinical activities, increasing billable services, and eliminating inefficient processes that take time away from evaluation and treatment. As a senior clinician, the candidate will also evaluate, plan, and carry out individual treatment procedures for patients based on their needs and treatment goals. The Head OT will function under the supervision of the Article 16 Clinic Administrator, working closely to develop policies and streamline processes to provide optimal services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Obtains and reviews individuals’ information including health histories
• Conducts functional evaluations, screenings, and assessments to determine individuals’ capabilities and needs in areas such as strength and endurance, balance and coordination, functional mobility, judgement and problem-solving abilities, activities of daily living, and self-care skills.
• Makes recommendations based on evaluation results, including adaptive equipment and techniques, environmental modification, care provider training, and/or direct therapy services.
• Develops and implements individual treatment plans, including treatment strategies, goals, and anticipated outcomes.
• Selects, administers, and modifies treatment interventions and modalities, which may include the use of adaptive techniques and equipment, and conducts and supervises individual and group occupational therapy activities and programs to assist individual in attaining therapeutic goals.
• Motivates and instructs individual, families, and care providers in the development of skills and techniques necessary to complete tasks and activities of daily living.
• Observes and records individuals’ progress, response, and behavior in accordance with program standards, and modifies treatment plans, interventions, and goals as needed.
• Maintains individual records and documentation in accordance with program standards and requirements
• Assembles, cleans, and maintains adaptive equipment for individual use
• Monitor supplies for occupational therapy activities
• Schedule individual appointments and procedures
• Supervise and train Occupational Therapists, COTA’s, and AES.
• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate occupational therapy programs and services.

Head Occupational Therapists manage and/or oversee the occupational therapy program for a hospital, major treatment program, or facility, and provide clinical supervision to a number of Senior Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and other staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

*Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b or 55-c service as a Senior Occupational Therapist.
