Candidates must have a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:

Either A. Nurse Administrator 1, Nurse Administrator 1 (Psychiatric), Nurse Administrator 2, or Nurse Administrator 2 (Psychiatric); AND you must have a bachelor’s or higher degree in Nursing, Nursing Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Community Mental Health, or Health Administration;

Or B. Training Specialist 1 (Nursing) [formerly known as Mental Hygiene Staff Development Specialist 3 (Nursing)], Community Mental Health Nurse, Community Mental Health Nurse (Spanish Language), Infection Control Nurse, Nurse Practitioner (All Parenthetics), or Nurse 3 (All Parenthetics); AND you must have a bachelor’s or higher degree in Nursing, Nursing Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Community Mental Health, or Health Administration.


If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.

Duties Description As a Mental Hygiene Nursing Program Coordinator, you would function as the assistant to the Director of Nursing. You would perform a broad range of clinical and administrative duties, such as assisting with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures; interpreting rules, regulations, and laws; assisting with planning, establishing, evaluating, and maintaining standards of nursing care; developing staff training programs; supervising nursing administrators and other nursing staff; participating in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff; monitoring licensure and credentials of nursing staff; and ensuring compliance with various accreditation standards for nursing care.

Note: This position acts as the assistant to the Director of Nursing for the outpatient children/adolescent and adult psychiatric unit.

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

You must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State. If you fail to maintain your registration, action will be taken to remove you from this position.

You must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. If you receive an appointment, your continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility. Failure to do so may result in the termination of your appointment.

Additional Comments:
Posted Salary Range includes a Geographic Differential ($20,000) added to the statutory hiring rate ($85,712). Geographic Differential ($20,000) added to the job rate ($108,342).
