Minimum Qualifications Promotion: must have one year of competitive service as a Security Services Assistant 1.
You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of NYS and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55b/55c service as a Security Services Assistant 1.
You may be appointed provisionally pending exam if you qualify.
All candidates must have, and continuously maintain, their current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the NYS Department of State in order to accept and maintain employment. A copy of your Security Guard Photo ID must accompany your resume.
You must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time and be able to climb stairs. Appointees may be required to work various shifts, as well as unscheduled overtime when necessary.
You must pass a physical exam conducted specifically for Security Services Assistants.
Duties Description The Security Services Assistant 2 (SSA2) will enforce building regulations, maintain order, and direct visitors in state facilities, provide foot patrols of facilities and their environs, control access to buildings and offices,
Supervises and coordinates the activities of Security Services Assistants 1, including completion of performance appraisals. The SSA2 will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining security systems to control access to building and restricted areas; investigating security incidents; interviewing witnesses; coordinating activities with local police agencies and preparing written reports; assisting in fire drills and evacuations; the direct supervision of SSA1s; and preparing shift assignments and overtime schedules to maintain facility coverage.
Additional Comments This position is at the NYS Veterans' Home in Oxford, NY. We are a 242 bed, state of the art, skilled nursing facility for Veterans and their dependents.
