Minimum Qualifications • Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State;

AND

• Certification in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; AND

• Two (2) years of post-board certification professional experience as a member of the psychiatric staff of a psychiatric hospital and/or in the psychiatry department of a general hospital. One (1) year of this experience must have included the clinical supervision of other psychiatrists, psychiatric residents, or fellows.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong teaching and clinical skills.
• Commitment to teaching Psychiatry trainees as demonstrated by prior involvement in a residency training program.
• Strong administrative skills, preferably with experience in residency program administration.
• Experience with ACGME Psychiatry Residency program protocols.
• Specialty training or interest in Public Psychiatry.
• Leadership experience and familiarity with academic affiliation contracts.
• Ability to recruit faculty members.

Continued employment as either a Psychiatrist 3 is dependent upon current licensure and registration by New York State to practice medicine and certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Loss of licensure and registration may result in removal from employment.

Duties Description As a Psychiatrist 3, you will function as a Director of Psychiatry with overall administrative responsibility for a major treatment component organized to provide the full range of patient services. You will be responsible for ensuring that treatment programs are planned, organized, and conducted according to patient needs, and supervise, consult with, and serve as a resource to facility medical staff, including but not limited to team leaders and psychiatrists. You will be expected to serve on a variety of committees and provide report as needed.

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.

OMH hospital employees must be fully vaccinated or willing to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Candidates who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may not start working until two weeks after their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
