Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, infection control, statistics/biostatistics, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science, or a related field and five years of professional scisntific research experience in an appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in one of the above fields and four years of such experience; or a Doctorate in one of the above fields and two years of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
"-Master’s or Doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics or closely related field
-Intermediate or advanced knowledge of SAS, geographical information systems (GIS) and Tableau
-At least 2 years experience integrating health equity principles into surveillance, epidemiology and research
- At least 2 years experience analyzing population-based survey data
- At least 2 years experience in chronic disease surveillance, epidemiology or research
- At least 2 years experience with supervision of research and data analysis staff"
Duties Description The Research Scientist 4 will engage in research and data analysis activities supporting New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) chronic disease prevention and control initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the Student Weight Status Category Reporting System, a surveillance system for measuring obesity in school age children and adolescents. The incumbent will oversee and coordinate between the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, Electronic Health Record surveillance projects as well as cannabis, tobacco, alcohol surveillance systems/programs and other behavioral risk factor surveillance as needed. The Research Scientist IV will be expected to analyze data from NYSDOH, state, and federal data sources and to conduct surveillance in support of chronic disease prevention and control initiatives. The incumbent will contribute to the evidence base in chronic disease prevention and control, summarizing the findings from data analysis projects to members of the DOH project team, internal, and external stakeholders, and disseminating findings through presentations, reports and manuscripts.
Additional Comments Permanent , full-time, non-competitive appointment. Routine travel, including occasional overnight travel and travel to areas which may not be served by public transportation, is required. (~20%)
