Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description Incumbent will be participating in multiple field intensive sampling programs. Primary duties of this position involve sampling marine invertebrate, finfish, elasmobranch, and protected species aboard division research vessels, commercial fishing vessels, at commercial fishing ports, markets, and at beaches. Sampling will involve handling, identification, measuring, and tagging of live and dead marine species. Sampling can and will take place at night and early in the morning and during adverse weather conditions. This employee must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds and be comfortable working aboard boats. This individual will be responsible for basic maintenance and upkeep of field equipment. This employee will also have office tasks such as QA/QC of data and data entry into an Access database, scanning documents, and preparing mailings of notices to the public. The applicant must be comfortable with answering and making phone calls to the public.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2022. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
