Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. *Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver’s license required.
Duties Description Ability to perform semiskilled, routine, and repetitive maintenance tasks in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and mechanical trades; ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs; work from ladders, scaffolds and lifts, work at heights up to 20’+ and in confined spaces; previous experience in carpentry; framing, sheetrock, flooring (VCT, carpeting, etc.), and drop-ceilings installation preferred; previous experience with removal of window/ door glass & caulk utilizing safe handling practices for PCB/ Asbestos Hazardous waste preferred; ability to safely operate stationary power tools, table saw, band saw, jointer, and other tools; ability to troubleshoot, repair, and install commercial and residential doors and hardware; ability to work overtime as required for emergencies and special campus events; previous experience working with a Computerized Maintenance System preferred; valid NYS driver's license required.
