Duties Description This position of Professional Engineer 4 (Environmental) is located in the Region 2, Long Island City office within the Division of Materials Management and will be responsible for the following:
- Direct and manage implementation of the Regional Materials Management program for Solid Waste and RCRA program sections, with approximately 15 staff. Oversee and direct development and implementation of the annual program work plan. Ensure work plan is approved by Regional and Division Directors. Ensure staff understands their responsibilities under the work plan and are consistently working toward satisfying the plan. Advocate for program goals and needs.
- Address all program administrative duties including Internal Controls, time records, budget, inventory control, staff performances plans and evaluations.
- Foster program sustainability and succession through continual assessment of program needs and opportunities and by supporting and encouraging professional and personal development of program staff.
- Maintain an appropriate level of coordination and engagement with the Regional Director and regional senior staff. Ensure all relevant parties are aware of program issues that have need of support from, or implications for, the broader Region or other DEC programs.
- Undertake special assignments or extra-work plan activities as they arise (e.g. emergency response, Executive directives). Identify and develop opportunities for undertaking initiatives to benefit program delivery. Ensure these assignment and initiatives are managed so as to have the least impact on- established work plan targets.
Serve as Division and Departmental representative at meetings conferences and other settings as needed or directed.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
