Duties Description The medical specialist is responsible for monitoring and improving the level of care provided and help reduce operating costs of the Brooklyn DDSOO over time. The Medical Specialist will be responsible for Individuals care, clinical outcomes, and the implementation and oversight of the quality assessment and performance improvement program. Additionally, successful medical specialist will work closely with the executive management team to implement strategies that enhance Individual care and improve the medical practice. The Medical Specialist will report to the Director of State Operations.

Responsibilities for Medical Specialist
• Work directly with providers to educate them on OPWDD’s care process and determine what can be done to improve overall care and quality of Individuals with IDD.
• Act as the medical expert in dealings with vendors and non-medical facilities that work within the organization
• Manage the number of activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such as cost management, utilization review, quality assurance, and medical protocol development
• Participate in various executive/administrative and clinical staff meetings
• Maintain confidentiality of all information related to participants, medical staff and employees
• Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors
• Oversee the activities of DDSOO physicians, including the recruiting and evaluation processes
• Be an active member of the DDSOO’s Incident Review Committee and Human Rights Committee, Directorate Committee

• Be knowledgeable in performance improvement methods needed to support Individuals in the DDSOO.

• Administratively oversee medical activities in Article 16 clinic.

• Play an active role in the utilization, reviewing and analyzing EHR data in order to identify opportunities for improvement

• Provide input into prioritization of improvement opportunities on Health Services within the DDSOO.

• Assist facility in maintaining focus on systems and processes of care.

• Coach and mentor staff as needed to avoid focus on individual behavior over systems and processes.

• Participate in developing policies and procedures
