Duties Description Metropolitan South District Director
Metropolitan South consists of Brooklyn Atlantic District Office, Coney Island District Office, and Richmond District Office. Each office also includes Traffic Violations Bureau clerical functions.

As a Motor Vehicle Program Manager 2, under the general direction of a Motor Vehicle Program Manager 3 or higher, you would, with wide latitude in the exercise of discretion and independent judgment, be responsible for directing and coordinating a program, or a region within a major program area.

The District Director provides overall management of these offices, monitors wait times, transaction volumes: watching for trends and pro-actively prepares for possible issues and develops resolution, be alert to and cognizant of trends or situations that may be indicative of fraud or malfeasance. Reviews metrics related to office performance and identify, and report concerns along with recommendations to management.

Provides timely support to staff in addressing daily operational needs, initiates communication of program goals so that staff are properly aligned with the agency mission. Ensures that services are delivered at a high standard of excellence. Regularly meets with staff to review reports to ensure internal controls are in place and to help identify questionable activity and/or internal control weaknesses and ensues that resources are maximized.

Coordinates with other district directors regarding staffing needs – for example reallocating MVR staff when necessary to assist other offices. Oversees reallocation of MVR and/or per diem staff among offices in the district when adjustments become necessary due to unplanned staffing shortages (FMLA, call-ins, extended leaves, etc.). Works with managers to promote maximum flexibility in shifting work and/or staff to areas of greatest need, both to manage temporary and permanent fluctuations in demand. Promotes and encourages an environment where staff routinely identify and adjust fluctuations.

Evaluates issues/anticipates potential issues and decides which need elevation to upper management. Manages and directs implementation of new programs and initiatives, identify needs and secure necessary resources, troubleshoots and helps resolve pre/post implementation issues.

Additional Comments District Directors are required to travel to each office at least once a week. Must also be available for coverage of each office as needed. Travel may also be required for meetings in other districts, and Albany.
