Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) traineeship or a two-year plumbing training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State Driver’s license required.
* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.
Duties Description Operating Needs:
Ability to perform journey-level plumbing and steamfitting duties; Experience in repairing, maintaining, and installing plumbing fixtures and appliances including but not limited to water-based fire protection systems, eyewash, dench hose, and emergency showers; Ability to identify and discusses problems with user, visually inspects the fixtures or equipment and uses appropriate test equipment; Experience in following technical manuals, codes, diagrams; Experience in new installations and alterations to existing installations; Experience in major repairs consistent with specifications, plans and plumbing codes; Ability to assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, joins piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints; Ability to life and carry up to 50lbs.; Ability to work from heights, both on platforms and ladders, up to 20ft. and walk and navigate stairs throughout shift; ability to navigate MS Office Suite and Apple products; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; CMMS Experience; Knowledge of current Fire Code of NYS and NFPA Standards; Ability to perform minor repairs, ordering and replacements and record all work, inspections and testing performed using ITM Software; work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; Valid New York state Driver's license required.
