Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree or higher and three years of experience in developing, supporting or managing strategic relationships with businesses.
Four additional years of specialized experience OR and Associate’s degree and two years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree. J.D. or Master’s degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to identify, create and develop relationships with key stakeholders
• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
• Knowledge of workforce development and planning
• Experience working with private sector businesses
• Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders
Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES: The Business Advocate will be responsible for working directly with businesses assisting them with program navigation, gaining a deeper understanding of the superiority and value of the no cost to user DOL programs and services available to businesses. Provides outreach, problem solving, uses critical thinking and analytical skills to troubleshoot, builds capacity, and help with navigating DOL and State resources while providing a high level of customer service to businesses.
This role reports to the Business Customer Advocate. Responsibilities include:
• Working with businesses, responding to issues by prioritizing business demands, engaging relevant colleagues, to developing solutions.
• Developing, within a team, programs/tools to connect with businesses, learn about their needs, concerns and barriers to growth, and inform on DOL business services to address their needs.
• Gathers and information to assist with the preparation of media posts, briefings, presentations.
• Contributes to and/or implements creative solutions for advancing DOL’s engagement with businesses while problem-solving and managing risks and consequences.
• Develop a work plan that includes timelines and goals and measuring results/outcomes
• Advocate for local businesses by providing business owners with the DOL no cost programs and services resources, support and tools they need to simplify operations, reduce costs
• Ensures quality and content of response to businesses is met, providing thorough and actionable feedback for process improvement to DOL Ombudsman (Ombudsperson)
• Facilitate proactive engagement of NYS business across the spectrum of DOL no cost programs and services (Apprenticeship, Shared Work, Tax Credits, etc.)
• Deliver solution driven presentations to business partners informing of DOL programs and services
• Establish working relationships with statewide business advocacy groups, community groups, employers, and report on their concerns
• Connect businesses to the appropriate resources/staff
