Minimum Qualifications Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Public Health Nutritionist 2, Grade 24.
OR: New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title eligible for transfer to Public Health Nutritionist 2, Grade 24, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have professional work and supervisory experience in a large, multi-faceted public health nutrition program and will possess excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, and organizational skills. The preferred candidate will also have a strong command of public health as it relates to child and maternal nutrition and will be able to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
Duties Description The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) offers nutrition education, breastfeeding support, referrals, and a variety of nutritious foods to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five to promote and support good health.
The Public Health Nutritionist (PHN) 2 will serve as the Nutrition Services Team Lead and will assist with developing the New York State Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Services plan, assist in coordinating regional and statewide meetings, oversee participant-centered nutrition services, and provide technical assistance and consultation on nutrition services to WIC local agency and state staff. The PHN2 will oversee staff responsible for interpreting federal regulations governing the WIC program; the development and revisions associated with program policies, procedures, training, and guidance in areas including nutrition education, nutrition assessment, nutrition risk eligibility, and other ancillary services; and nutrition-related management information system testing and updates, and the review of WIC Training Center trainings within these areas. The incumbent will directly supervise staff and provide leadership, manage assignments, and promote teamwork to accomplish program goals and directives.
