Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible
list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service
Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be
reachable on the resultant eligible list to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.

The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional examination are:
One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an:
Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior
Drafting Technician (all parenthetic), Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils).

Only the title or titles listed are qualifying. The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive examination are:

Either 1. FOUR years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority.

Or 2. An Associate degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology AND TWO years of experience listed above in number 1.

Or 3. A Bachelor's degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering, or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology.

Your degree or college credit, high school diploma or equivalency diploma must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university, high school or educational institution or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If your degree, college credit, or high school diploma was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the NYS Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service. You must pay the required evaluation fee. At the interview, you may be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Some assignments may include nights and weekends with travel and overnight. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience, which can be verified, will be accepted on a prorated basis.

Under the supervision of higher-level staff, the incumbent of this position will provide support to Quality Control Engineer/Bridge Asset Manager in Region 11 Structures Group. Incumbent’s duties include but are not limited to the following:

Assist in providing detailed Quality Control reviews of all contract plan drawings and project cost estimates prepared for bridge projects.

Perform engineering work of easy/moderate difficulty relating to the design, estimating, and preparation of
contract plans for rehabilitation bridge projects.

Preferred candidates shall possess excellent written and oral communication skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access Database.

Additional Comments * Telecommuting: The Department’s current telecommuting agreement is valid through December 31, 2022 and is subject to extension beyond that date.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
