Minimum Qualifications "Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent permanent, competitive status as an Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive, service in a title at or above Grade 4, and deemed eligible for transfer to Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Public Candidates: Active list candidate on the New York State Department of Civil Service's Beginning Office Assistant eligible list#26-711 with a score of 100 or higher, OR qualified 55 b/c candidate.

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent secretarial, communication and organizational skills. Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.   Experience with ASPEN surveillance programs.  Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.

Duties Description The Office Assistant 1 in the Nursing Home Program performs office support and clerical work to meet the requirements of the program.  The Office Assistant 1 duties includes: typing of routine correspondence with facilities and complainants, document preparation tasks; input/retrieve data from several surveillance databases and tracking logs; processing survey schedules and inspection reports; prepare survey packets and enforcement referral documents; maintain facility rosters; organize and maintain an extensive filing system; provide coverage for multiple program phone lines; special projects as assigned by program management; creating and assisting in the preparation of reports, charts, graphs, calculations, and tables; and fax, mail, supply, and inventory functions.
