Minimum Qualifications The qualifications include at least six years’ investigative experience and at least two years of leadership, management, and supervisory experience. Experience investigating excessive force allegations and deaths of individuals are preferred. Strong leadership and the ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities are necessary. This position will require a high degree of organizational and writing skills, as well as must be available to respond immediately to incidents and possibly remain in the area as needed.
OSI investigative staff must possess, at a minimum, knowledge of the applicable laws, the highest levels of behavior including personal integrity and ethics; fairness; character; judgment; attitude; and respect for and ability to work with others inside and outside OSI. OSI investigative staff must have state-of-the-art technical skills for thorough and objective investigations and to fulfill OSI’s mission. Appropriate licensure and certifications (including being or becoming a peace officer qualified to carry a firearm) are also required. The ability to travel is also necessary. Duties Description The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is seeking qualified candidates to be considered for to serve as an Assistant Deputy Chief Investigator (ADCI) for OSI’s Internal Affairs Division. The Internal Affairs Division (IAD) investigates a wide range of allegations of violations of the Department’s policies and criminal laws, including staff misconduct, incarcerated individual/releasee misconduct, unattended deaths in facilities, escape plots, and other alleged misconduct having a nexus to DOCCS not covered by another OSI division. IAD also is frequently involved with leading special operations such a monitoring of DOCCS implementation of critical programs.

This ADCI position is responsible for the daily operations of IAD and management of IAD staff from Albany through the Hudson Valley to New York City and Long Island. The ADCI position is the fifth-level leadership and supervisory level role (under the Deputy Commissioner/Chief, Assistant Commissioner/Assistant Chief, Director of Operations and Deputy Chief Investigator for IAD). This ADCI will supervise senior investigators and investigators handling IAD cases. It is the responsibility of the ADCI to ensure that the investigations conducted by the IAD staff in the ADCI’s geographic area are thorough, timely, and fair, as well as compliant with relevant laws.

Location: Albany, Long Island City, Wallkill, or Fishkill. Office assignments are based upon the needs of OSI and the Department. Travel is required.
