Salary RangeFrom $105500 to $133319 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Admission to the New York State Bar and a member in good standing with at least six years post law school legal experience as a practicing attorney in litigation and/or in administrative proceedings. Applicants must have prior supervisory experience and be capable of managing a legal office of attorneys and support staff.
Duties Description The ideal candidate will have previous experience in discrimination laws and general employment matters such as interpreting union contracts and NY Civil Service Law and Rules. Knowledge and experience with Employee Relations and Human Resources issues and administrative forums such as DHR, EEOC, and PERB are preferred. Knowledge of (or an interest and willingness to learn) health care law, Medicaid, and/or managed care, HIPAA and other state and federal health care confidentiality laws is also desired (or is a plus). Significant trial work or administrative hearing work as well as superior legal research and writing abilities and attention to detail is preferred. The position also requires that the applicant possess a willingness and ability to learn new technologies that support and further the mission of the office.
Reporting directly to the General Counsel and/or Deputy Counsel primary duties include providing legal advice and guidance on reasonable accommodation, disciplinary matters, agency administrative policies and procedures, and defending the agency in employment discrimination cases. Duties may also include supervising Office of Counsel staff and managing daily office activities and participate as a member of the Office of Counsel management team; overseeing and actively participating in complex court litigation and administrative hearing matters from commencement to post-trial or hearing; and advising and/or providing input and legal guidance to agency officials and staff. Travel is required as part of this position.
