Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications for Provisional Appointment:
Must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service as a Construction Equipment Operator, General Mechanic, Trades Generalist, Labor Supervisor, Facility Operations Assistant 2, Maintenance Assistant, Maintenance Assistant Mechanic, Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment), or Maintenance Assistant Parks.
Or
Three years of experience in general construction or maintenance and possession of a valid NYS driver's license appropriate for the types of vehicles to be operated.
Reassignment - Currently in title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis
or
55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the
55-b/55-c program.
Open Competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates):
Three years of experience in general construction or maintenance and possession of a valid NYS driver's license appropriate for the types of vehicles to be operated.
Note: If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list (three acceptors) for this position, candidates who qualify under the 55-b/55-c option cannot be considered.
Duties Description As a working supervisor, the Conservation Operations Supervisor 1 inspects construction and maintenance activities performed by crews and contractors; orders & maintains records of supplies, materials, and equipment; prepares work plans and reviews mileage sheets, time & activity sheets for subordinates; operates a variety of power tools and equipment; ensures that assignments are completed safely and effectively; operates heavy equipment, as needed; performs minor maintenance tasks; and trains and coordinates activities of subordinate staff and volunteers. Performs additional construction and maintenance tasks as assigned, in support of Regional Operations.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.
