Minimum Qualifications Four years of full time experience under a skilled journeyman which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in the plumbing trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
Duties Description Performs journeyman Plumbing / Steam Fitting work and frequently supervises others in the installation, alteration and repair of kitchen and patient care equipment, medical gas systems, pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, heating control, domestic water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Patients, guests, visitors, and all other customers within University Hospital and associated buildings use these systems.
Requires experience in maintenance or mechanical work in related trades of Carpentry & HVAC under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or completion of an appropriate two year technical school course or apprenticeship program. Performs semi-skilled work in a variety of Carpentry tasks such as, but not limited to, the repair and installation of walls, ceilings, floors, cabinets, doors, as well as reading blue prints. Performs semi-skilled HVAC work such as steam and hydronic systems, chilled water systems, and unit heaters.
Must demonstrate working knowledge of theory practice, techniques, applicable standards and tools, materials and equipment used in the primary trade as a Plumber and the two secondary trades of Carpentry and HVAC. Must have working knowledge of applicable plumbing code regulations, mathematics of the Plumbing, Carpentry and HVAC trades, ability to read, interpret and work from plans, drawings and specifications; working knowledge of hot water and steam heating systems and control devices; ability to perform moderately heavy lifting, stoop, bend, stretch and stand for long periods of time. May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather. Will be required to communicate with the public, contractors, other trade and management personnel.
Position may require the use of a respirator to comply with State & Federal Safety Health Codes. Reassignment offers are contingent upon satisfactory evaluation from the Employee Health Office. NYS Backflow inspector/tester certification preferred. Current NYS Certification with at least two years experience inspecting/testing Backflow prevention devices preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver's License.
