Minimum Qualifications "Reassignment Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Sanitarian, Grade 14.

Public Candidates for Provisional Opportunity (Open-Competitive Minimum Qualifications):

For Sanitarian Trainee, NS: Either A. a bachelor's degree, including 30 credits in the natural and applied sciences; of which at least 18 credits are in the natural sciences (defined below); Or B. an associate's degree in the natural sciences AND 4 years of experience in environmental health protection (defined below).

For Public Health Sanitarian, Grade 14: Either A. a bachelor's degree in the natural sciences (defined below); Or B. a bachelor's degree, including 30 credits in the natural and applied sciences, of which at least 18 credits are in the natural sciences, AND one year of experience in environmental health protection (defined below); Or C. an associate's degree in the natural sciences AND 5 years experience in environmental health protection (defined below).

**Natural sciences that are considered appropriate are biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences (geology and hydrology).
***Applied sciences include science-based courses in environmental technology, sanitation technology, medical technology, public health, infection control, and food science.

Substitution: a master's degree in the natural or applied sciences may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

Experience in environmental health protection is defined as conducting inspections to determine compliance with federal, state, or local environmental laws, regulations, and established public health standards, OR experience in the notification of public health environmental hazards and the development of methods to eliminate or control such hazards and/or the spread of disease and other environmental factors impacting the health of individuals and/or the public, such as in hospitals and long term care facilities.

Duties Description The Sanitarian Trainee or Public Health Sanitarian would conduct environmental health inspections to confirm compliance with Public Health Law and the State Sanitary Codes. The position would also be responsible for documentation, citing deficiencies to facility operators, reviewing facility plans for appropriateness and viability, and conducting follow-up visits to determine ongoing compliance. Areas of assignment may include restaurants, children's camps, hotels/motels and temporary residences, pools/beaches, mass gatherings, and may also include the inspection of community, non-community, and non-transient no-community water systems. The position would also assist in health-related investigations and responses to chemical exposures or emergencies.

Additional Comments "Provisional opportunity is pending canvass outcome. Contingent permanent or provisional full-time competitive appointment. Travel throughout several counties to areas not served by public transportation is required (30%).
