Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Library Clerk 2.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-7 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. 55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.
Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have graduated from high school or be in possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND have one year of library clerical experience OR 30 college semester credit hours, of which at least nine (9) college semester credit hours MUST be in any combination of the following: library/information science, computer applications, or information studies.






Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for a Library Clerk 2 position in the New York State Library. Under direct supervision of a Senior Librarian (Technical Processes), the incumbent of this position will be responsible for the repair of books and other documents in the library’s collections. This position will require the individual to be able to bend, reach, stoop, lift, push heavy book carts and stand for long periods of time. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform complicated repairs and encapsulation of library materials in accordance with New York State Library’s preservation standards;
• Create accurate labels using an Access database program or Word labels template while utilizing the State Library’s catalog to determine appropriate course of action;
• Inspect, repair, maintain and type labels for various microfilms;
• Assist in monitoring collection spaces and respond accordingly to collection emergencies;
• Transport preservation and emergency supplies and documents using books trucks;
• Train student assistants; and
• Perform other tasks, as assigned.



Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment or temporary provisional appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Library Clerk 2 when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. The selected candidate must be able to bend, reach, stoop, lift and push heavy book carts. Hours of work: 8:00 or 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday.
