Minimum Qualifications "G14 - Bachelor’s degree and one year of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field. Substitution: 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

G18 - Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field. Substitution: master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: An individual meeting or exceeding minimum qualifications with experience performing laboratory analyses for inorganic contaminants in environmental sample matrices. Experience in inorganic analytical techniques, such as flow injection analysis and ion chromatography. Knowledge of environmental laboratory standards and quality assurance. Ability to work independently and excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Duties Description The incumbent in this position is responsible for support activities within the Laboratory of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry.

Grade – 14
Process and analyze various environmental samples for inorganic contaminants using approved standard operating procedures. Compile analytical results for data review and enter into the laboratory’s data management system. Perform routine equipment maintenance. Prepare standards and reagents. Perform quality assurance activities, such as support equipment verifications and control charting. Maintain required documentation for above activities. Perform other general laboratory maintenance tasks as assigned.

Grade – 18
Perform all of the duties of a Grade – 14. Utilize more advanced analytical techniques for processing and analyzing samples. Perform data review and finalize results in the laboratory’s data management system for reporting. Modify, optimize, develop, or troubleshoot new or existing methodologies as needed and write or revise standard operating procedures. Perform more advanced equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Train new staff, students, or volunteers on learned tasks. Participate in research projects supporting the Wadsworth Center’s public health priorities as assigned and overseen by the supervisor.

Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
