Minimum Qualifications Requirements:
Promotion: one year of permanent service as a University Police Communications and Security Specialist 1 or 2 AND:
1. two years of active military service with an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act AND 30 college semester credit hours; or
2. successful completion of a New York State Municipal Police Training Council approved Pre Employment Training Program AND eligibility to complete the second phase of such training program that has not lapsed AND 30 college semester credit hours; or
3. 60 or more college semester credit hours.
Duties Description Job Description:
University Police Officers enforce all New York State and local laws and the Student Code of Conduct on the grounds of the State University of State University of New York. The successful candidate will be actively involved in campus communities and activities including educating community members on such topics as personal safety, risk awareness, crime prevention, alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention and other community safety issues, prepares a variety of shift summary reports, logs and records covering activities of a criminal or unusual nature and other security related activities, reports to the scene of the crime, accident or other disturbance in order to halt crimes in progress, arrest violators, maintain order and arrange for the appropriate care of injured persons, regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic, may enforce vehicle and traffic laws in order to prevent dangerous situations from arising. University Police Officers are responsible for striving to establish and maintain positive relationships with members of the campus community; may initiate conversations with students, faculty and staff at meetings and gatherings and on patrol; listen attentively to statements of problems and facts, and respond with information and assistance.
Enforcing all NYS and local laws and the Student Code of Conduct
Educate community members on personal safety topics, risk awareness, crime prevention, and other community safety issues.
Preparing a variety of shift summary reports, logs, and records.
Other reasonable duties as assigned.
Additional Comments Two years of active military service with an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act AND 30 college semester credit hours; or

60 or more college semester credit hours. University Police Officer 2 Promotion: three years of permanent service as a University Police Officer 1.
Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operator's license.
Must be able to work alone and exercise good judgement in performing duties.
Must be legally eligible to carry a firearm and complete all requirements for certification as a police officer in New York State.
