Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades person or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Duties Description - Performs a variety of semiskilled carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, roofing, masonry and related work in maintaining, repairing and constructing a wide variety of park structures, roads and other facilities.
- Will be required to perform grounds maintenance (such as trash removal, using rakes and shovels, and Facility snow removal).
- Additionally, duties will involve other areas of support and maintenance at facilities as directed; some of which will require DEC chainsaw certification to assist with hazardous tree removal.
- Must be even tempered and capable of communicating with the public as well as subordinates.
- Must be able and willing to supervise 3 or more persons (including laborers).
- Must be able to work productively without supervision within established policies and procedures service.
- Operates and performs such preventative maintenance as lubrication and making of minor adjustments on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, power saws and like equipment.
- This position requires that you observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
- Must have and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- May be required to operate dump trucks, tractor trailer trucks, heavy equipment, if your license class is appropriate for that type of vehicle.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2022. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
