Duties Description The Legal Assistant 2, Grade 17, will work in the Office of Investigations and Enforcement of the Office of General Counsel (OGC). The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, as this position requires frequent communication with Department staff and outside parties. Candidates should possess excellent computer skills and be flexible, well organized, and able to prioritize assignments. The chosen candidate will perform duties that include, but are not limited to:
• Scheduling witnesses and collecting information relevant to the case.
• Assembling exhibits and briefs.
• Completing routine investigative work for attorney review.
• Assisting in the final preparation of legal documents for State and federal litigation (e.g., ensuring documents are properly formatted, preparing tables of authorities, bookmarking, etc.)
• Filing of legal documents in court dockets, requiring familiarity with New York State Courts Electronic Filing (NYSCEF) and Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) electronic filing systems, as well as knowledge of where to find relevant State and federal procedural and filing rules.
• Serving and filing paper documents when required.
• Organizing and preparing voluminous administrative records for court filings, responses to subpoenas, and other discovery requests.
• Preparing correspondence and drafting legal documents, including responsive motions or answers, affidavits, or discovery demands.
• Conducting legal research, requiring familiarity with Westlaw and hardcopy sources.
• Tracking relevant court dates and maintaining litigation calendar, requiring the ability to search and track case information in NYSCEF and the Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) service system.
• Preparing and maintaining a log of litigation holds.
• Reviewing drafts of legislative proposals for compliance with bill drafting requirements.

Additional Comments The primary location for this position is either Albany or New York City. If the position is filled in the New York City location, the salary range above would increase by the Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
