Minimum Qualifications • Admitted to the New York State Bar;
• Four years of experience in the practice of law
subsequent to admission to the Bar;
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience
investigating insurance fraud.
Duties Description The incumbent will serve as the Assistant Director of NYSIF's Division of Confidential Investigations (DCI) and will be responsible for assisting the Director of DCI with the overall management of the unit, including the coordination of investigators and development of cases, by managing the Unit’s overall case load.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work under the Director of DCI and assume full responsibility in the absence of the Director.
- Work in partnership with the Director to create a strategic 5-year plan and implement new processed and approaches to ensure consistency statewide.
- Direct and monitor activities related to the administration and operation of confidential investigations of waste, fraud and abuse.
- Determine the priority of cases, deciding which cases have greater potential for fraud, and oversee the preparation of critical investigative reports prepared by staff.
- Provide internal leadership working directly with the Investigative Officer 3’s to oversee the statewide caseload of DCI.
- Provide guidance with respect to the referral of all cases to law enforcement entities.
- Assist with the recoupment of forfeiture, restitution, and collections.
- Be the point person to oversee letters of agreement, contracts, leases and other legal documents and agreements.
- Negotiates settlements in litigious matters.
