Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in an environmental education program; or one year of college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.

Duties Description This position is in the Hunter Education Program (HEP). The Environmental Education Assistant will provide support for the Hunter Education Program as well as the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) Program and National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Overnight travel within New York State and some weekend work will be necessary. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills a plus.

Principal Duties:
• Develop educational and outreach materials for the HEP.
• Contribute to the creation and updating of HEP class materials, including course work, lesson plans, homework, and exams.
• Contribute to the creation and updating of student manuals and resources provided to HEP volunteer instructors.
• Answer two, high-volume phone lines and monitor the high-volume HEP email inbox.
• Communicate with the public regarding NASP, BOW and HEP related inquiries via phone and email.
• Communicate with hunters and instructors regarding HEP courses, licenses, hunting and trapping seasons, and game harvest reporting. Also retrieve messages from voicemail and return calls regarding the HEP, courses and hunting-related issues.
• Communicate with the HEP’s large community of volunteer instructors regarding course logistics, policies, and supplies.
• Assist with logistics and planning of the annual statewide NASP tournament, BOW workshops, and other HEP supported trainings, events, and meetings.
• Handle incoming mail distribution, scanning, faxing, photocopying, and word processing.
• Reissue HEP course certificates, maintain certificate database, and use and maintain instructor database.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and materials for HEP courses and order equipment when needed.
• Assist with purchasing and fiscal management including ordering supplies, paying invoices, reconciling credit card charges, and tracking expenses for the HEP, BOW, and NASP programs.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2023. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
