Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description Assist with biological surveys using various types of equipment to obtain samples of biota, water, soil, sediment, etc.; record basic data from field samples, including identification of biota and measurements taken on samples; conduct user surveys and compile, summarize, prepare, and proof resulting data; construct and repair habitat improvement structures and equipment utilized; conduct fish propagation activities, including securing eggs and milt, and fertilizing, incubating, rearing and distributing fish stocks; distribute supplies and materials; assist with the development of brochures; review tax maps and deeds to determine wetland ownership; and conduct checks for compliance with conditions of minor agency permits. Equipment maintenance including boats, trailers, survey equipment and gear. Inspect and maintain angler access sites and DEC boat launches, post regulation signs, identify larger maintenance needs.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 03/31/2023. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
