Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Public Health, or Public Policy, or a closely related degree, and three years of qualifying experience*; or a Master’s degree in one of these fields and two years of qualifying experience*.
*Qualifying Experience: experience analyzing data, trends, policies, and programs that involve criminal justice and/or juvenile justice populations in a formal professional setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the public health approach to addressing gun violence, knowledge of evidence-based strategies to address root causes of community violence, ability to maintain effective professional relationships with agencies, communities, and system stakeholders, including youth and families, and demonstrable experience with communities of color and hands on knowledge of the factors that contribute to the disparities in the youth justice system.
Duties Description The Criminal Justice Policy Analyst 2 (Community Violence Coordinator) will be assigned to the Office of Youth Justice. The incumbent will be responsible for the programmatic coordination and development of community-driven strategies to address violence in localities across New York State. Specifically, this will require the individual to work within identified communities at highest risk for gun violence across NYS, coordinate multi-disciplinary stakeholder and community listening sessions to identify needs and gaps in services and programming to support new initiatives through an equity and healing lens. The Community Violence Coordinator will serve as a liaison and work closely with the DCJS SNUG and GIVE initiatives designed to reduce gun violence in local jurisdictions. They will also identify and develop training and technical assistance to address the needs of local and state youth justice system stakeholders.
The incumbent will review, analyze, and interpret existing data related to community violence to identify trends, disparities, and make recommendations for policy and programmatic changes. They will also coordinate the reporting and collection of performance measures and other outcome data from grantees for inclusion in various reports and sustainability planning. Additional duties include but are not limited to: developing presentations; attending meetings with community and state level partners; assisting with current programming efforts; and preparing any other funding applications as assigned. The applicant must also be able to work with diverse populations and exhibit problem solving methodologies. Approximately 35% travel is required.
