Street Address *TBD- position will report to Main Office but will be responsible for territory spanning multiple Regions within NYS.
Minimum Qualifications *Although this position will report to Main Office, the incumbent may be assigned to work from a location within a territory that encompasses Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens and Richmond counties.
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service law. If a viable list does not exist a provisional appointment may be made. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list to be considered for a permanent appointment to the position.
The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional examination are:
THREE months of permanent competitive, or 55b/c service as a Motor Carrier Investigator, Motor Vehicle Inspector, or Motor Vehicle Inspector (Spanish Language).
*You must have one year of service as described above in order to qualify for appointment
Duties Description Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of motor carrier safety related data systems.
• Provide assistance to the bus inspection program staff by addressing inquiries from industry stakeholders, government agencies and the general public.
• Provide technical assistance to the field staff and industry stakeholders.
• Supervise staff and conduct investigations of passenger carriers. Prepare reports of findings. Assist in developing recommendations to correct hazards and prevent future accidents.
• Assist in the development of the bus inspection program policies, procedures and staff training.
• Conduct meetings, training sessions and industry outreach as required.
• Assist staff by gathering and analyzing data and preparing reports.
• Provide bus inspection program managers with all required and requested reports, information and assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Visit field staff at inspection facilities to provide oversight and assistance and if necessary, conduct vehicle inspections.
• Prepare and provide testimony at hearings as needed.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Additional Comments *Telecommuting: The Department’s current telecommuting agreement is valid through January 31, 2023 and is subject to extension beyond that date.
