Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years of litigation experience. Applicants must be capable of handling a large caseload and all phases of an investigation and litigation, from commencement through trial. Additionally, applicants must have excellent writing, reasoning, organizational, negotiation and technological skills.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.

Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) Suffolk Regional Office is seeking an experienced trial attorney to primarily represent the State of New York and its agencies in the Court of Claims in a wide variety of litigation including claims involving highway design, premises liability, unjust conviction, Child Victims Act, breach of contract, and fleet claims involving State vehicles. The selected attorney will also be defending the State of New York and its agencies, officials, and employees in state and federal courts in civil actions involving public employment, public health, and challenges to state action/legislation. The Regional Office offers a diverse and stimulating litigation practice with attorneys handling all phases of litigation from inception through trial and having frequent opportunities to appear in court.
