Salary RangeFrom $26.95 to $26.95 Hourly
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be full time law student at accredited law school in New York State (1L or 2L)
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
• Strong computer research skills, such as Lexis
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Desire to work in public service
• Prefer 2L headed into 3L
• Must be able to commit to full-time summer, and part-time in fall and spring semester
Duties Description This internship will support NYSIF’s legal operations with respect to one or more of the following areas:
• Appeals: Administrative appeals of decisions issued by Administrative Law Judges in workers’ compensation claims, and support for appeals to the appellate division, third department
• Collections: Premium collection matters involving issues of non-payment, involving negotiation and potential court actions
• Contracts: Support for the contracts and procurement of goods and services, involving diverse range of work, including areas such as investments and real estate
• Litigation: Defense of employers in third-party suits involving contribution and indemnification actions
• Loss Transfer: Loss transfer matters stemming from motor-vehicle accidents in the context of workers’ compensation claims
• Special Projects: A variety of research projects, such as legislative/regulatory initiatives and evaluation, hearing strategies, technological innovations, and specialized litigation
Additional Comments Schedule:
• Summer 2023 - Full time (37.5 hours per week)
• Fall 2023 through Spring 2024: part time (10 to 15 hours per week)

These internships are being filled in various locations at NYSIF. The hourly pay listed for the downstate locations includes supplemental location pay as designated by NYS for that specific county.
